Sitemap.xml generator
Paste one URL per line and download a valid sitemap.xml. The tool escapes special characters, removes duplicates, keeps URLs to a single host, and splits the list into several files with a sitemap index when you pass 50,000 URLs or 50 MB. Nothing is uploaded.
After the address you can add, separated by spaces: a date (2026-10-26), a change frequency (weekly), a priority (0.8), img=https://… for an image, or alt=fr:https://… for another language version. Lines starting with # are ignored.
Defaults for lines that do not set their own
Options
The sitemap limit is 50,000 URLs or 50 MB per file. Lower it only to test.
Result
4 URLs in 1 file(s), 540 B. 1 duplicates removed. 1 lines skipped.
Upload it as sitemap.xml in your site root, then submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, or add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt.
Checks
- CheckLine 6: a different host than the first URL, skipped (a sitemap may only list URLs of its own site): https://other.example.org/page
How it works
- •Paste your addresses, one per line. After an address you can add a date, a change frequency, a priority, an image (img=URL) or another language version (alt=fr:URL).
- •Set defaults for lines that do not have their own, and choose whether to drop duplicates and URLs from another host. Problems are listed with their line numbers.
- •Copy or download the file. Large lists come out as sitemap-1.xml, sitemap-2.xml and a sitemap-index.xml; upload them all to one folder and submit only the index.
What it does and what it cannot do
- •It builds a sitemap from the URLs you give it. It does not crawl your site or check that the pages exist.
- •A sitemap may only list URLs on its own host, which is why other hosts are skipped by default.
- •Google ignores changefreq and priority and uses lastmod only when it is accurate; Bing uses lastmod too. Leave them out if you cannot keep them true.
- •A comma, space or | inside an address is read as a separator. Percent-encode such characters (%2C) first. Very large lists use your device's memory, so tens of thousands of URLs may take a moment.
- •Video and news sitemap extensions are not included; image and language-alternate links are.
Questions
- How many URLs can one sitemap hold?
- 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file. Past either limit you need several files plus a sitemap index. This tool does the split for you.
- Where do I put sitemap.xml?
- In your site root (https://example.com/sitemap.xml) or any path on the same host, then submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, or add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt.
- Do changefreq and priority matter?
- Google has said it ignores both. They are harmless and valid, so they are optional here. A truthful lastmod is the only date field that is useful.
- What format should lastmod have?
- A W3C date: 2026-10-26 or a full date and time like 2026-10-26T09:30:00+02:00. The tool rejects impossible dates such as 2026-02-30.
- Why were some of my URLs skipped?
- Lines that are not full http(s) addresses, addresses over 2,048 characters, and URLs on a different host than the first one are skipped; each is listed under Checks with its line number.
- Are special characters handled?
- Yes. & ' " < > are escaped for XML, and non-ASCII characters in addresses are percent-encoded the way browsers do it.
