Online screen recorder
Pick your screen, a window or a browser tab, press record, and download the video when you stop. It works on desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. The video is made inside your browser and never uploaded, and there is no watermark or time limit apart from the one you choose.
Checking your browser…
How to use it
- •Choose whether to include tab or system audio and your microphone, and optionally set a time or size limit.
- •Press Start recording, pick what to share in the browser's window, and wait for the 3-2-1 countdown.
- •Pause and resume as often as you like. Press Stop and save, or use the browser's own Stop sharing button.
- •Check the preview, then download the file. If you do not download it, it disappears when you close the tab.
What to know before you record
- •Sound from your computer depends on the browser and on what you share. Chrome and Edge can include audio when you share a browser tab (and the whole screen on Windows). On a Mac, Chrome cannot share system audio from a window or the whole screen, only from a tab. Safari and Firefox usually share none. Your microphone works everywhere and is mixed in if you tick it.
- •The tool uses MP4 (H.264) when your browser can make it, which plays everywhere, including QuickTime. Otherwise it records WebM, and it tells you which. QuickTime on a Mac cannot open WebM: use VLC or IINA, or convert it to MP4.
- •The recording is held in your computer's memory until you stop. A few minutes at screen size is fine; very long recordings can reach gigabytes and slow the page down. Use the recording limit for long sessions, and keep the tab open while recording.
- •iPhone and iPad browsers do not allow websites to record the screen. On those devices use the Screen Recording button in Control Center.
Questions
- Does this upload my screen recording?
- No. The recording is made and stored by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the tool keeps working with your connection off once the page has loaded.
- Why is there no sound from my computer?
- The browser only shares sound when you tick the audio option in its picker, and only for what it supports: browser tabs in Chrome and Edge, and the whole screen on Windows. On a Mac, Chrome cannot share system audio from a window or the whole screen. Safari and Firefox usually cannot share sound. Tick “Also record my microphone” if you want to speak over it.
- Why did I get a WebM file and my Mac will not open it?
- Some browsers can only record WebM. QuickTime Player on a Mac cannot play it. Open it with VLC or IINA, or convert it to MP4. Safari and recent Chrome versions can record MP4 directly.
- How long can I record?
- As long as your computer has memory for it, because the video is kept in memory until you stop. Set “Recording limit” to 15 or 30 minutes, or to a size such as 500 MB, so a long session ends cleanly instead of crashing the page.
- Can I record on my phone?
- Not with a website on iPhone or iPad, and Android browsers vary. Use the phone's built-in screen recorder instead.
- What happens if I click Stop sharing in the browser bar?
- The recording stops and everything recorded up to that moment is saved and shown for download.
