iPhone and iPad screen sizes (points and pixels)
Most recent iPhones are 393 × 852 pt or 402 × 874 pt at @3x (1179 × 2556 and 1206 × 2622 pixels); the largest, iPhone 16 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max, are 440 × 956 pt (1320 × 2868 px). The table below has every iPhone, iPad and iPod touch row from Apple's Human Interface Guidelines: portrait size in points, scale, pixels, the hardware at the top of the screen and the App Store screenshot class it belongs to. Search it, sort it, and convert points to pixels and back.
iPhone and iPad screen sizes

Apple's guidelines say safe areas keep content clear of hardware such as the Dynamic Island, the sensor housing and the rounded corners, but the table gives no inset numbers per device. Read the real insets at run time (safeAreaInsets in UIKit, the safe area in SwiftUI).
Points and pixels calculator
Pixels = points × scale. Going back, points = pixels ÷ scale, which is not always a whole number.
Points → Pixels
In pixels: 1179 × 2556
Devices with this size in Apple's table: iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15, iPhone 14 Pro
Pixels → Points
In points: 820 × 1180
Devices with this size in Apple's table: iPad Air 11-inch, iPad Air 10.9-inch, iPad 11-inch
Which size do I design for?
- •Design in points, not pixels. iOS lays out in points and the system draws them at @2x or @3x, so one layout covers every scale.
- •iPhone widths in Apple's table run from 320 pt (iPhone SE 4-inch, iPod touch) to 440 pt (iPhone 16 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max). Check your layout at the narrowest width your minimum iOS version still runs on, and at 440 pt.
- •Recent iPhones other than the Plus, Pro Max, Air and 16e models are 393 × 852 pt (iPhone 14 Pro to iPhone 16) and 402 × 874 pt (iPhone 16 Pro, 17 and 17 Pro). Either is a sensible size for your first mockup.
- •On iPad, portrait widths run from 744 pt (iPad mini 8.3-inch) to 1032 pt (iPad Pro 13-inch). Use size classes rather than the device: every iPad in Apple's size-class table is regular width and regular height in both orientations, though split view and Slide Over make the window narrower.
- •For App Store screenshots use the screenshot class column, not the device's pixels. The iPhone 8 Plus screen is 1080 × 1920, but its screenshot class takes 1242 × 2208.

How it works
- •Each row is copied from the device table in Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (Layout > Specifications): model name, portrait size in points, pixels and the UIKit scale. Nothing is added from other sites.
- •Apple removed that table from the live guidelines page on 9 September 2026. The rows here are from the last version Apple published, read from the page's own data as archived on 2 July 2026. Newer devices are not listed, because Apple has not published their numbers in the guidelines.
- •Display sizes in inches appear only where Apple's model name gives one (iPads, iPhone SE). Apple's table names other iPhones by model only.
- •The screenshot class comes from Apple's App Store Connect screenshot specifications. Where the device's own pixel size is an accepted screenshot size, it is matched by size; otherwise by the device name Apple lists under that class.
- •The top-of-screen column says whether the device's screenshot class is the one for iPhones with the Dynamic Island or with Face ID, so you know what the safe area keeps clear.
- •The calculator multiplies points by the scale and divides pixels by it, then lists any device in the table with exactly that size.
What it does not do
- •It does not list devices that are missing from Apple's table, such as iPhones released after the table was removed.
- •It gives no pixel density (PPI) and no inch sizes for iPhones, because Apple's table does not have them.
- •It gives no safe-area inset numbers. Apple does not publish them per device in the guidelines; read them in your app at run time.
- •It does not cover Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV or Apple Vision Pro screens.
- •It does not resize screenshots. Use the App Store screenshot size tool for that.
Questions
- What is the difference between points and pixels?
- A point is the unit iOS lays out in. The screen draws each point with 2 × 2 pixels on @2x devices and 3 × 3 pixels on @3x devices. So a 393-point-wide iPhone 15 is 1179 pixels wide (393 × 3). Design and lay out in points; export images at @2x and @3x.
- Why does the iPhone 8 Plus say 1080 × 1920 when 414 × 736 at @3x is 1242 × 2208?
- UIKit lays out the Plus models from iPhone 6 Plus to iPhone 8 Plus at @3x, which is 1242 × 2208, while the screen has 1080 × 1920 pixels. Apple's table lists the screen pixels and notes that its scale factors are UIKit scale factors, which may differ from the native scale. App Store screenshots for these phones are 1242 × 2208.
- Which screen size should I design my iPhone app for?
- Start at 393 × 852 or 402 × 874 points, the size of most recent iPhones, then check the narrowest width you support (375 or 320 points on older models) and the widest, 440 points. Build the layout with constraints or SwiftUI stacks so it stretches between them.
- What screen size is the iPhone 16 Pro Max in points?
- 440 × 956 points at @3x, which is 1320 × 2868 pixels. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has the same size in Apple's table. Its App Store screenshots go in the class for iPhones with the Dynamic Island, large display.
- Why are some new devices missing?
- This page lists only what Apple published in its design guidelines. Apple took the device table off the guidelines page in September 2026, so devices released after that have no official entry to copy. We do not fill gaps from other websites.
- Where do I find the safe area for each iPhone?
- Apple's guidelines describe what the safe area avoids (the Dynamic Island, the sensor housing, rounded corners, bars) but do not publish inset numbers per device. Read them in your app: safeAreaInsets on a UIView or the safe area of a SwiftUI view.
