CroText is a native macOS editor for plain text, source code and Markdown. Open a single file when you just need to make an edit, or open a folder to get a sidebar, project-wide search and symbol navigation. It launches instantly, brings your windows and tabs back exactly as you left them, and never asks you to sign in. A REAL EDITOR, NOT A TEXT BOX • Syntax highlighting for Swift, JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, TSX, Python, Go, Rust, C, C++, Objective-C, Java, Kotlin, PHP, Ruby, shell, HTML, CSS, JSON and YAML • Several selections at once: add the next occurrence of what you selected, then type at every one of them • Line commands — duplicate, select, delete — that undo in a single step • Line numbers, indentation guides, a minimap, soft wrapping and adjustable tab width • Files open in the encoding they were written in and are saved back the same way, including UTF-8, UTF-16 and GB18030 FIND ANYTHING, FAST • Command Palette: fuzzy-match every command in the app, each shown with its current key equivalent • Quick Open by file name, anywhere in the workspace • Go to Symbol in the current document, or across the whole project • Go to Definition and Go to Line, with Back to return exactly where you came from • Find in Files with case, whole-word and regular-expression matching, narrowed by file pattern MARKDOWN THAT RENDERS • Live preview beside the editor, following the document as you type • KaTeX math, inline and display • Mermaid diagrams, with a syntax error shown in place rather than a blank block • Compile to a single self-contained HTML file — math, diagrams and styling included • Style the preview and the compiled file with the built-in template or your own CSS BUILT FOR A FOLDER • File tree with new file, new folder, rename, reveal in the Finder and move to Trash • The workspace is watched, so files added or removed by other apps appear on their own • If a document you have open changes on disk, CroText tells you before your next save can overwrite it • Tabs, windows and text you have not saved yet come back the next time you launch • Image files open in a read-only viewer instead of being mangled as text MADE YOURS • Every keyboard shortcut is rebindable, and a combination already in use is refused rather than quietly taken from another command • Two editor themes, with your choice of font and size • Interface in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Italian PRIVATE BY DEFAULT CroText has no account, no analytics, no telemetry and no cloud. It runs in the macOS App Sandbox and touches only the files and folders you point it at. When a save needs a folder it has not been given, it asks once and remembers the answer — and Settings ▸ Privacy lists every folder you have granted so you can take access back at any time. Your documents stay on your Mac. Requires macOS 15.6 or later.
