Remove location and hidden data from photos
Photos carry more than pixels: where you stood, which phone you used, when you took it, and sometimes your editing history. Drop a photo to see exactly what it holds, then download a clean copy.
Drop photos here
JPEG, PNG or WebP. Nothing is uploaded: the file is read and rewritten inside this page.
How it works
- •Everything happens in this page. The photo is never sent to a server, so you can switch off your connection and it still works.
- •Only the metadata blocks are cut out. The picture data is copied as it is, so quality and file size do not suffer from a second round of compression.
- •By default the small flag that says how to rotate the photo is kept, so a portrait shot does not turn sideways.
Questions
- Does this upload my photo?
- No. The file is read and rewritten by your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere. You can check by turning your network off before dropping a photo.
- Will the photo get worse?
- No. The picture itself is not touched or re-compressed. Only the hidden data blocks are left out of the new file.
- Which files work?
- JPEG, PNG and WebP. HEIC photos from an iPhone are not supported here; convert them to JPEG first, or use Pixveil on your iPhone or Mac.
- Do social apps remove this data for me?
- Some do, some do not, and email or file sharing usually keeps it. The guide below lists which ones leak your location.
