About
SoundGauge turns your iPhone into a real-time dB(A) sound level meter that also tells you how long that noise is safe to listen to. Point it at any room — a concert, a workshop, a busy office — and see the live reading, a plain-English context label, and your running average and peak.
Most decibel apps stop at the number. SoundGauge adds the part that matters for your ears: a safe-listening countdown based on the NIOSH 85 dB / 8-hour recommended exposure limit, so a quick glance tells you whether you're fine for hours or should step out soon.
Included from the first launch:
- Live dB(A) reading, updating in real time from the microphone
- Safe-listening time at the current level
- Running average (LEQ) and peak for the current session
- Plain-English context — quiet room, city traffic, live concert
SoundGauge Pro (one-time purchase, yours forever):
- Log timed exposure sessions with average, peak, and duration
- See each session's percent of your safe daily noise dose
- Full exposure history you can review anytime
- Export your log as CSV for records or your audiologist
Everything runs on-device. No account, no ads, and audio is never recorded or sent anywhere.
SoundGauge gives a helpful estimate from your phone's microphone for everyday awareness. It is not a calibrated instrument and is not a substitute for professional hearing assessment or occupational noise monitoring.
