About this app

The developer's US App Store description, in full.

DM Read Aloud reads text to you in your Mac's own voice, and highlights each word as it's spoken — so you can listen while you do something else, and glance back to see where it is. It was built for AI coding assistants that run in the background. Once its hook is set up, every reply your assistant finishes is read to you the moment it lands: the session's name first, then the reply, with code blocks skipped or read as you prefer. When a session needs your permission or has a question, a short notice interrupts the reading and the reply picks up where it stopped. Answer a session and its reply stops being read. It also reads anything else: press Read Clipboard, open a text or Markdown file, or drop one on the icon. LISTENING • Play, pause, stop, back or forward one sentence, next reply — from the window, the menu bar player, the Dock menu or the keyboard • Speed from 0.75× to 3.5×, with a Slower / Faster / Normal shortcut • Any voice installed on your Mac; Premium and Enhanced voices listed first • Click any word to read from there • A stopped reply remembers where it was YOUR ASSISTANT'S REPLIES • Set up in one step: choose the assistant's settings folder, and the app installs its hook for you • Reads whole replies or first paragraphs only, says the session name first, reads or skips code • Mute a session, mark replies read, copy their text • Opens itself when a reply arrives (optional), and can open at login Works with Claude Code, Anthropic's coding tool, through a hook it installs for you. Not affiliated with Anthropic. PRIVATE No account, no network, no analytics. Everything is read by macOS's built-in speech on your Mac. Replies are kept only in the app's own history, which you can clear. Requires macOS 14.4 or later.
