A COURSE, NOT A PILE OF TOOLS Eight units that go somewhere. You start by holding the guitar and end by working out a song by ear. 1. Your first chords — E minor, A minor, and getting them clean 2. Changing without stopping — the anchor finger, and twenty changes a minute 3. The other hand — down on the numbers, and your first strumming pattern 4. The sad ones — what makes a chord minor, sevenths, C and G 5. Your first song — chords over words, played end to end 6. String by string — the thumb, and your first arpeggio 7. Barre chords — F, B minor, and how to get them clean 8. Why chords fit together — keys, and writing your own progression Every lesson ends with a check you have to pass by playing, not by reading. A METRONOME THAT TRAINS YOU Not just a click. Tap the tempo, set the time signature, and let the speed trainer walk you up: choose a target, choose how much to add each round, and play until you get there. The tempo names are the real ones — Adagio through Prestissimo — so the words on a page of music start meaning something. A TUNER THAT HEARS EVERY CENT Point it at the string and it tells you the truth, not a green light that forgives. Standard tuning, drop tunings, open tunings. SIXTEEN GUITARS Dreadnought, parlour, jumbo, classical, flamenco, twelve-string, resonator, acoustic-electric. Strat, Telecaster, Les Paul, semi-hollow, jazzbox, high gain, baritone, bass. Each one modelled, not sampled — so the same chord sounds like a different instrument. TWENTY SONGS YOU CAN ACTUALLY PLAY Every one genuinely in the public domain, checked one by one, with the chords over the words and its own working shown: where it came from, who collected it, and why it is free to play. House of the Rising Sun, Scarborough Fair, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, When the Saints Go Marching In. The song, never the famous recording. THE REFERENCE, WHEN YOU NEED IT Every chord there is, with fingerings you can actually reach. Scales and modes. Arpeggios. Strumming patterns. Techniques — bends, slides, palm mute, harmonics. Alternate tunings. Progressions you can hear before you play them. PLAY, WITHOUT A LESSON A full fretboard you can strum, pick and bend. Record a loop and play over yourself. WHY IT IS DIFFERENT Most guitar apps are a tuner with a shop attached, or a game that scores you on notes you did not choose.
