About this app
The developer's US App Store description, in full.
Why Weather is the thinking weather app—for the weather-curious and the weather-nerdy. We explain the science behind the forecast, and the uncertainty behind the science. Most weather apps give you the play-by-play; we add the color commentary. MEET SKY Sky is the AI weather guide built into Why Weather, and you can ask it anything. Why is a front moving in? What does that radar pattern mean? Why is the pressure dropping? Is this heat normal for October? Sky answers from your actual forecast, live radar, nearby weather stations and the National Weather Service's own forecast discussion. It explains the why, not just the what. Ask about climate and Sky answers from vetted sources like NOAA, NASA and the IPCC, with citations you can check. ALMANAC: HOW UNUSUAL IS THIS WEEK? Every forecast comes with history. A line under the daily forecast sums up how the week ahead compares with normal. Tap it and Almanac charts the forecast against normal and record highs, ranks the week against the last 30 years, and shows how your area's temperatures have shifted decade by decade. THE AIR TODAY Humidity, dewpoint and pressure, finally explained. The air today turns the numbers into how the air actually feels—dry, comfortable, sticky, muggy—and what the pressure is doing: rising, falling or steady, and what that usually means for the hours ahead. ON THIS DAY Today's forecast next to the normal high and low, the record high and low (and the years they were set), and what happened on this date last year. Days in the forecast that come close to a record get flagged. TODAY'S WEATHER STORY Tap "Today's weather story" on the forecast screen, or your morning notification, and Sky writes a short narrative of what's actually going to happen: what the front is doing, what to plan around, and whether the rain is for real or just hedging. FORECAST IN FLUX When forecasters are hedging, we tell you. If the National Weather Service flags uncertainty in its forecast discussion, or rain chances sit in that murky middle, a "Forecast in flux" badge shows it, and Sky can walk you through why. The forecast isn't gospel; we don't pretend it is. RADAR Animated radar shows rain and storms moving in real time. Premium adds the next hour of future radar, plus wind and heat maps. NOTIFICATIONS THAT RESPECT YOUR TIME — A one-sentence weather story every morning, linking to the full story — Severe weather watches and warnings the moment they're issued — A heads-up before rain begins, with intensity context BUILT FOR WEATHER NERDS — A daily atmospheric fact, plus questions to explore with Sky, from core meteorology to planetary atmospheres and climate science — Honest framing about forecast limits ("rain in the area," not "rain at your house") — Home screen widgets — Fahrenheit or Celsius, with your choice of units for wind, pressure and rain PREMIUM Free includes the full forecast, radar, notifications and three Sky questions a day. Premium adds: — Unlimited Sky — Almanac — The air today — On this day, with records, last year and near-record flags — Future radar, plus wind and heat maps — Every forecast source (NOAA, Foreca, Apple WeatherKit and more) and a 10-day forecast, up from 7 Monthly and annual subscriptions available.
