Gexed is a regular expression workbench for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Write a pattern, paste in some text, and watch it match as you type. EVERY GROUP IN ITS OWN COLOR Each capture group gets its own color, carried from its parentheses in the pattern to what it captured in the test text and its row in the results, so even long patterns with named and nested groups are easy to follow. MATCHES AS YOU TYPE • Match count, group count and timing update with every keystroke • Matching runs in the background with a time limit, so a runaway pattern can't freeze the app • Select a match to find it in the text, or move the cursor to find it in the list • Clear explanations when a pattern is invalid, with the problem underlined • Toggles for ignore case, multiline, dot matches newlines and ignore whitespace REPLACE, WITH A LIVE PREVIEW Write a replacement using $1, $2 and so on, and see the result as you type. TESTS FOR YOUR PATTERNS Give a pattern examples it should match, match entirely, or not match. Gexed checks them on every edit, so you know the moment a change breaks something. YOUR LIBRARY, EVERYWHERE • Save patterns with notes, mark favorites, and search them all • Start from a built-in library of common patterns, from email addresses and dates to URLs and colors • Your library syncs through iCloud between your Mac, iPhone and iPad • Import and export patterns to share them COPY AS CODE Copy any pattern as Swift Regex, NSRegularExpression, JavaScript or Python, with flags and escaping taken care of. AND MORE • A cheat sheet beside the editor: choose an entry to insert it at the cursor • Shortcuts actions: Find Matches, Replace Matches and Run Saved Pattern • On Mac, test any selected text from the Services menu • On iPhone and iPad, regex symbols in a row above the keyboard • Open a text file to use as the test text Gexed uses ICU regular expressions, the same engine as NSRegularExpression and Swift, so a pattern that works in Gexed works in your app.
